The Altar at the Center

Romans 12:1-8Pastor Mike

John is told to measure the altar. In Scripture, the altar is a place of worship, sacrifice, and surrender. That makes it a helpful picture for your life with Christ. Worship is more than singing a song on Sunday; it is the daily offering of yourself to God. Paul says to give your body to God because of all He has done for you. In other words, worship happens when your schedule, choices, relationships, words, money, habits, and plans are placed in His hands. It is possible to be busy with church things while the altar of your heart grows cold. You can serve, attend, lead, and give while still holding back the very part of your life Jesus is asking for. God is not simply counting how much you do. He wants you. The good news is that the altar is also a place of grace. Jesus has already given Himself for you. Your surrender is not an attempt to earn His love; it is your response to a love you have already received. Today, ask what is actually on the altar. Are you offering God your whole life, or only the parts that are convenient to release?

Application

1.  Which area of your life is easiest to offer to God, and which area do you tend to keep under your own control?

2.  How could one ordinary part of your day become an act of worship instead of merely another responsibility?

3.  What would wholehearted surrender look like in one relationship, decision, habit, or concern you are carrying right now?

Daily Challenge

Choose one ordinary activity today—a commute, meal, meeting, chore, workout, or conversation—and deliberately offer it to God before you begin. Say, “Jesus, this belongs to You. Help me honor You in it.”

Prayer

Father, thank You for giving Yourself to me in Christ. I do not want to offer You only leftovers. Teach me to make my whole life an act of worship. Take what I have been holding back and shape it for Your purposes. Amen.
