Keep the Fire Burning

I Thessalonians 5:12-24Pastor Mike

The altar reminds us not only of sacrifice but also of fire. A fire needs attention. Neglect it long enough and what once burned brightly can fade to embers. Paul tells believers, “Do not stifle the Holy Spirit.” That warning is not meant to make you anxious; it is an invitation to pay attention to the life of God within you. Spiritual fire is not the same as emotional excitement. Some days faith feels strong and joyful; other days it feels quiet and costly. The deeper question is whether you are staying responsive to the Spirit. Are you listening when He convicts you? Are you obeying when He nudges you? Are you feeding your soul with Scripture, prayer, worship, and Christian community? Are you allowing resentment, distraction, secret compromise, or hurry to smother what God wants to do in you? You cannot manufacture the fire of God, but you can make room for Him. Holiness is not about trying harder to look religious. It is the Spirit of God cleansing, filling, and reshaping a surrendered heart. Today, ask God to reveal anything that is cooling your love for Him, and then give Him room to rekindle what has grown dim.

Application

1.  What has been feeding your love for Christ lately, and what has been quietly draining it?

2.  Where might you be resisting, delaying, or explaining away something the Holy Spirit has been pressing on your heart?

3.  What rhythm could you strengthen this week to create more room for Scripture, prayer, worship, or Christian community?

Daily Challenge

Name one thing that has been cooling your spiritual life. Remove or limit it for the next 24 hours. Replace that time with Scripture and prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to renew your love for Jesus and make you quick to obey.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, search me and show me what has been cooling my love for Christ. Cleanse what needs to be cleansed, rekindle what has grown dim, and fill me again with holy love. Make me responsive to Your voice today. Amen.
