Put the Biggest Thing First

Psalm 37:3-7Pastor Mike

Reflection

Seeking first the Kingdom is not about squeezing more religious activity into an already crowded schedule. It is about deciding what gets to organize everything else. Psalm 37 joins trust with action: trust the Lord, do good, commit your way to Him, and be still in His presence. That is Kingdom-first living. You still work, plan, parent, spend, save, serve, and make decisions. But you begin asking a different question: “Father, what does Your rule look like here?” That question can reach very practical places. It may affect what you buy, what you say yes to, how quickly you respond in anger, how you use your phone, whether you forgive, how you speak about someone, or whether your schedule leaves room for worship and presence. Grace does more than comfort you after anxious choices; grace can reorder the choices themselves. Even good things become destructive when you ask them to be God. When the Kingdom is first, money can become a tool instead of a master. Family can remain a gift instead of an idol. Work can become service instead of identity. Rest can become trust instead of guilt. You do not lose your life when Jesus becomes first. Under His rule, the rest of your life begins to find its proper place.

Application:

1.  Which visible area of your life most clearly needs to be reordered around the Kingdom—money, schedule, media, relationships, work, rest, or something else?

2.  What good gift are you most tempted to make ultimate, and how has that distorted your relationship with it?

3.  What concrete choice would communicate “God, what You want comes before what I want” in that area this week?

Daily Challenge: Make one visible Kingdom-first change today. Give something, cancel something, schedule something, apologize, turn something off, protect time for worship or family, or choose obedience where convenience has been ruling. Keep the action small enough to do today but meaningful enough to cost you something.

Prayer: King Jesus, I do not want to fit You into the leftover spaces of my life. Reorder my desires and decisions around Your reign. Show me where a good thing has become too important, and give me courage to make a concrete change. Let my calendar, money, attention, and relationships increasingly reflect what I say I believe. Amen.
